Healthy Smiles for life
When it comes to giving your kids the best dental care, we believe that prevention is always better than treatment. By ensuring your children have the right dental care from a young age, you’ll be ensuring less expense is spent later in life when it is often much more difficult to rectify preventable problems. Our highly experienced team of gentle dentists can solve many of the problems that often trouble children, from teething right through to adolescence.
As well as encouraging good habits in early childhood, early detection of tooth decay is important for predicting the longevity of teeth. We can explain and demonstrate some of the simple preventative measures for taking care of children’s teeth, including correct brushing techniques and timing of drinking milk or sports drinks which can ultimately make a significant difference to the health of teeth.
Why do children need fluoride to be applied?
Fluoride is an important mineral for all children. Bacteria in the mouth combine with sugars and produce acid that can harm tooth enamel and damage teeth. Fluoride protects teeth from acid damage and helps reverse early signs of decay. Make sure your children are drinking plenty of water and brushing with toothpaste that has fluoride in it.
However, it often isn’t enough as recommended by dentists, so manual application is needed from a young age.
From what age and how often is it needed?
Ideally, from when the first tooth appears. Fluoride application is recommended every six months, preferably during school holidays.
